Are delta-9 and THCA the same thing?

Delta-9 and THCA are not the same thing, though they are closely related within the cannabis plant. THCA is the acidic precursor compound that occurs naturally in raw hemp flower, while delta-9 THC is a different cannabinoid with its own distinct chemical structure. The two molecules differ by just a carboxyl group, which changes how each one is classified under federal law. Under the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp is defined by its delta-9 content, which must remain at or below 0.3% by dry weight. THCA, however, is not restricted in the same way when derived from compliant hemp. Always check the certificate of analysis for accurate compound breakdowns before buying.
