Why Dab Temperature Matters
Temperature is the single biggest factor in your dabbing experience. The same THCA badder can taste completely different — and hit completely different — depending on whether you dab it at 400°F or 650°F.
Low temperatures preserve delicate terpenes that give each strain its unique flavor and aroma. Higher temperatures vaporize more material faster, producing bigger clouds and stronger immediate effects, but at the cost of flavor and smoothness.
Finding your ideal temperature is about balancing what matters most to you: flavor, vapor production, or raw potency.
Best Dab Temps by Concentrate Type
THCA Badder
450–550°F
Creamy texture melts evenly. Medium temps give the best balance of flavor and vapor.
Diamonds / Isolate
500–600°F
Crystalline structure needs more heat to fully vaporize. Pair with terp sauce for flavor.
Live Resin
350–450°F
Low temps preserve the full terpene profile from fresh-frozen extraction. Flavor-first.
Wax / Crumble
450–550°F
Drier texture vaporizes well at medium heat. Won't pool like badder or sauce.
Getting the Right Temperature
Unless you're using an e-nail or e-rig with precise temp control, hitting the right temperature takes practice. Here's how to get consistent results:
- E-nail / e-rig — Set your exact temperature digitally. Most consistent method. Worth the investment if you dab regularly.
- Infrared thermometer — Point at the banger surface for a real-time reading. Affordable and accurate.
- Timer method — Heat banger for 25–30 seconds, then wait 45–60 seconds for low temp, 30–40 for medium. Adjust based on your banger's thickness.
- Cold start (reverse dab) — Load concentrate into a cold banger, then heat gradually until it starts to bubble. Maximizes flavor with zero burn risk.
